That right….30 Helens agree that Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny deserves another chance! Jack Black can really annoy me, and the beginning of the downward spiral that is his career can be traced to this movie, but it is  ironically one of his best. Released in 2006 after a huge marketing campaign and an impressive list of cameos signed on,T.D. P.O.D was expected to be a blockbuster hit, but bombed mercilessly.

Tenacious D and the P.O.D. is a comedic rock opera retelling the not so epic origin of the comedic duo  Kyle Gass and Jack Black. They take their meager rise to comedy rock stardom and create an epic tale of  Metal adventure that is entertaining and fun. Don’t get me wrong, it’s no Oscar contender but it’s extremely entertaining, and definitely good for a few laughs. Continue Reading….

Lawmaker Pushes Congress to Take 5 Percent Pay Cut

(Taken from Fox News) With approval ratings south of 20 percent, Congress isn’t exactly acing its performance review — and one congresswoman thinks it’s time the American people started docking members’ pay.

Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick, D-Ariz., last week introduced a bill to cut pay for members of Congress by 5 percent. She said it hasn’t made her the most popular person in the House of Representatives, but it’s starting to gain bipartisan support.

“I’ll tell you, there is nothing like asking the people you work with to take a cut in pay and see the concern on their faces,” Kirkpatrick told Fox News on Monday. Continue Reading….

Hot Metal Chicks Abound!

First off I have to say this game makes me very angry. Angry because Brütal Legend is not a full fledged animated movie…. although it’s not far from it. I want nothing more than to throw it in the DVD player and allow my friends to experience the Glory of Metal. With amazing voice acting, great character design and movie quality animation, coupled with very funny dialogue and a tongue in cheek story, this game is almost more fun to watch  than it is  to play. But what else would you expect of a game from Tim Schafer?

Schafer is best known as the designer of critically acclaimed games Full Throttle, Grim Fandango, Psychonauts,  and co-designer of the early classics The Secret of Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2. He is known in the video game industry for his story-telling and comedy-writing abilities. Continue Reading….

I certainly don’t.

The recording industry is still failing and now they are proposing a tax that would be imposed on radio stations. It seems free promotion of “their” artists is simply not enough. Now they want to charge to have “their” product advertised. Tell me, does anybody else want/have to pay to advertise for someone? Why should radio stations have to do it?

For more information, go to http://www.noperformancetax.org/ or their Twitter and Facebook pages.

By all means, support your favorite artists. But try and do it as directly as possible. Go to concerts. Support local music. Buy music direct from artist websites. Keep radio free.

There are so many reasons that the world sees Americans as uneducated idiots ( People who believe their dog is their baby, those who insist sweat pants are an acceptable option of dress, Jerry Springer) but none drown our credibility  as much as our inability to speak our own language. How is it that the majority of our citizens seems to have learned how to speak phonetically and can’t even pronounce words that they can plainly read? Here is a short list of words for YOU (maybe not, but be sure to correct those around you) to stop saying incorrectly. Continue Reading….

Parenthood: A Ron Howard Joynt

One night, whist playing beer pong and Wii sports, a friend of mine made a remark about the new show “Parenthood”.  To paraphrase: “I don’t know what to think about it.  I mean, Ron Howard equals Arrested Development, but it just doesn’t look interesting”.  That comment stuck in my head because, when seeing  ads for the show, I realized that I couldn’t agree more.  In fact, I got confused from the ads, since I wasn’t sure who was who and none of the faces stood out as memorable.  In fact, the impression I got was that this was a show about a young family coming together and  I would have dismissed it, but for the glorious aura  that emanated at the simple mention of Ron Howard’s name. by Richard Harris taken from NPR

The magnitude 8.8 quake in Chile this weekend apparently changed the length of the day — and shifted the way the Earth wobbles, according to scientists at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

Not that anyone noticed.

Here’s why scientists figure that the Earth changed the way it rotates: It turns out our planet doesn’t spin like a perfect top; it actually wobbles a bit.

“The consequence of that is that the rotation pole actually moves, and it moves over the area about the size of a tennis court,” says Richard O’Connell at Harvard University.

This is called the Chandler wobble. And back in the mid 1970s, O’Connell wrote a paper that showed how big earthquakes keep kicking the Earth and by so doing keep the Earth wobbling. Continue Reading….

It’s another lax week as far as quantity of good releases however quality should fill in the void. I only have two recommended pick ups this week, but they’re biggies. For those who don’t know, Kevin Smith was originally slated to write and direct the big budget Green Hornet movie, but as with Superman was kicked to the wayside. Well now his script has been turned into a comic series by Dynamite comics, and you can read the genius that wont be put to celuloid. In addition there is a new Stepnen King title starting today called N. Here is more info.

Green Hornet #1

The Green Hornet is back and Dynamite is the new home for the avenging hero and his faithful sidekick, Kato (and, the Black Beauty, ‘natch!)! And we’re kicking things off with a BANG as we launch the first of a new series of adventures starting with the great Kevin Smith.  Joining Smith in bringing his unproduced screenplay to life is Continue Reading….

Sorry to get serious on you on a Monday, but my brain keeps workin! So as I commonly do, I was thinking about random things on my hour long commute to work, and today’s food for thought is “Is Racism really that prevalent in society or is it incorrectly defined Class-ism?” Giving this a good amount of thought I feel the answer is,  racism does exist but not as much as some would want you to think. A good deal of the prejudice that is seen in society doesn’t have so much to do with skin color or ethnicity as it does with the failure of some individuals to assimilate to the social norm. Skin color or ethnicity is just used in the ensuing insults to hurt that individual as much as possible via their bigger insecurities. Continue Reading….

Electronic Heroin

For a while now I’ve had the constant feeling that I need to unplug, but just don’t really have the social leeway to do so. Unless you choose to live completely alone in a cabin growing and raising your own food, you can’t escape computerized technology. With the danger of sounding like the Uni-bomber, I think it’s possible that computerized electronics are causing a crisis of self among humanity without us even knowing it. And yes I realize the irony of my statement considering I’m using a computer to self publish this ridiculousness. Continue Reading….

Get Him to the Greek

Holy Crap this Looks funny! Essentially this is a Spin off of Forgetting Sarah Marshall, featuring Aldus Snow (Russel Brand) who I personally thought was the funniest part of Marshall. The Story follows Johah Hill’s character as an uncomfortable and unestablished drone in the music industry who must escort Rock Legend Aldus Snow to the Greek theater by the end of the week; naturally shenanigans ensue. As funny as this movie looks, the title is abysmal. If I hadn’t read about it and watched the preview I would have thought it was some shitty tween movie about frat and sorority life. This could most definitely turn out to be the funniest movie of the spring! Continue on to see the preview. Continue Reading….

Ron (Mario) Jeremy

This Explains SO MUCH!! The mushrooms making Mario grow “bigger”. Why King Koopa*  wasn’t good enough for the Princess. For that matter how a fat plumber (heh heh plumber) got a princess in the first place. What else would this explain in the game?

*Yes I know he’s technically named Bowser, but im old school. In Super Mario Bros he was named King Koopa….Bowser was in Sha Na Na.

Dead Rising 2!

Its Zombie time again folks! Here is the first game play footage of the sequel to the awesome hack and slash zombie game for the Xbox 360; Dead Rising. Dead Rising 2 takes place in Fortune City (obviously a rip off of Las Vegas) with a new main character Chuck Green. DR2 also includes some new features such as weapon combining and as well as up to 10000 zombies on screen at one time.

The story line follows a somewhat Running Man-esque plot line that pits contestants against each other in an arena full of zombies to rack up a higher kill count. Its a few years after the events of the original and zombies have taken over quite a bit of real estate, so I can only assume that one such arena would be Fortune City. There is no release date posted yet, but continue on to see the footage!

Starcraft 2 Rumblings…

The monster within me stirs upon hearing more updates for this long awaited sequel. I applied for my beta, did you apply for yours? But honestly, I hope the actual game does not see a release until late 2010. I have too much to do now for this game to be dangled in front of me. Please Blizzard, just hold off until September. Anyways, here’s a good read if you are excited as I am. Jim Raynor’s wonderous dialogue will be upon us soon my friends…

A night with the new Battle.net and StarCraft 2

Many thanx to CapitalG for the tip. :)
